Vastu Shastra is an ancient Hindu science of architecture that helps in creating a place to live and/or work in a most scientific manner by taking advantage of the benefits provided by nature, its elements, and energy fields. wealth
Origin of Vastu
Vastu Shastra may have originated several thousand years ago. Those learned men of that time did not live in houses themselves but devoted their lives to the development and practice of the science called Vastu Shastra or Vastu as it is popularly known today.
During those days the principles of the scientific method were established solely on the basis of the effects of sunlight at different times of the day. Inspections and corrections were made only after a thorough investigation of the situation.
Vastu is one of the oldest parts of the Vedas, believed to be 4,000 to 5,000 years old. Through penance and mediation, the yogis of the time received answers that they thought came from the cosmic mind. Hence the Vedas are regarded as divine knowledge. The art of Vastu originated in the Stapatyas Vedas, a part of the Atharva Vedas.
It used to be something that only the architects (founders) knew about and passed down only to their heirs. The principles of construction in the science of Vastu are described in texts such as epics and temple architecture. It is described in the epics Matyas Purana, Skanda Purana, Agni Purana, Garuda Purana, Vishnu Purana etc. There are other ancient texts that have passed down the knowledge of Vastu Shastra to later generations, such as the Vishwakaramsutradhara, the Samrangana Sutradhara, the Kashyapa Shastra, the Vrihadsamsita, and the Pramanamanjarai.
It was said that many houses were built for the kings who were asked to attend the Rajasuya yagna of King Yudhishtra. Rishi Vyasa wrote that these houses were as high as the peaks of Mount Kailas, which means they were lofty and magnificent. The houses were free from barriers, had compound walls with high walls and their doorways were of uniform height and adorned with many metal ornaments. According to legend, the site plan of Ayodhya, the city of Lord Rama was similar to that described in the great architectural text "Manasara". There are also references to buildings based on Vastu in Buddhist literature. These contain references to specific buildings. According to Buddhist legend, Lord Buddha once gave a discourse on architecture to his disciples and also told them that supervising the construction of a building is one of the duties of an order. Mathas (viharams) or temples, buildings which are partly residential and partly sacred (ardhyayogis), residential storied houses (prasadam), multi-storied houses (harmias) and guhas or residential houses for middle class people.
